Day 1 | Arrival at Thessaloniki Airport – Thessaloniki Overnight
We start our seven day excursion and we will depart from Thessaloniki Airport, heading to Thessaloniki, which is the second largest city of Greece and was founded by the ascendant of Alexander the Great, Cassander. Arrival to our hotel. Check in to the hotel. In the afternoon, we will have a panoramic tour in the city center. Dinner at a traditional restaurant with live music. Overnight stay.

Day 2 | Thessaloniki – Thessaloniki Overnight
After breakfast, we will have a City Tour, visiting the Square of Jewish Martyrs and the ceremonial Synagogue, followed by a presentation at the Jewish Museum, where we learn about a community that once had 50 synagogues and was called Mother of Israel, home to famous Jewish mystics, legalists, poets and rabbis. The Jewish Museum of Thessaloniki represents the historic center of Thessaloniki’s Jewish Community and serves to acquaint the public with the city’s Jewish historic and cultural heritage. It is the only Synagogue that remains in its pre-Holocaust state and it was not destroyed by Nazi German forces during the occupation of Greece, as it was used as a warehouse by the Red Cross. Our coach takes us to quarters of the city that were once wholly Jewish and to archaeological sites going back to Roman and Hellenic times, villas once inhabited by prominent Jewish residents and the new Holocaust Memorial on the site of the cemetery destroyed by the Nazis, now the Aristotle University campus. Return back to our hotel. Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3 | Veria – Vergina – Metsovo – Ioannina Overnight
After breakfast, we depart for the capital of Imathia, which name is Veria. It is built at the foot of Mount Vermio. We will have free time to visit the Synagogue. It is located next to the Barbouta area, which over time came to be known as the Jewish District. The stone-built Synagogue is the most ancient synagogue in the Northern Greece. Today there are no Jews in Veria, but the quarter where they lived still stands. Then, we will head to Vergina, where we will visit the museum with the four tombs, two of which are the most significant, and a small shrine, the Heroes Garden. Our next stop is Metsovo, a traditional village built on the slopes of the largest mountain range in Greece, Pindos, where we will have free time for lunch. Then, we will move towards the city of Ioannina, which extends along the banks of Lake Pamvotis. Arrival to our hotel. Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4 | Ioannina – Konitsa – Monodendri – Ioannina Overnight
After breakfast, we depart for Zagorochoria and the beautiful city of Konitsa, where we will have time for wandering around. Departure for Monodendri, which retains much of the traditional stone-built architecture. The name “Monodendri” came into use only in the beginning of the 19th century. Its origin is in a very large tree, whose remains still existed in 1910. Then, from the point of Oksia we will admire the fantastic view of Vikos Gorge, which is found in the core zone of the Vikos National Park, in the Zagori region. It begins between the villages of Monodendri and Koukouli and ends near the village of Vikos. Return back to Ioannina and our hotel. Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 5 | Ioannina – Athens Overnight
After breakfast, we will visit the “Ancient Sacred Synagogue of Ioannina”, which is one of the largest and oldest buildings, preserved in Greece. The monument consists of a rectangular vaulted pillared hall with many windows. The Jewish community of Ioannina is mentioned since the Byzantine period. Until the Nazi persecution the Jewish community was an important factor in the local economy and history. Until the 60s a Jewish school functioned while the town cemetery is preserved today, buildings from the Jewish neighborhood and the Synagogue in the Castle. Free time to visit the castle and the island of Kyra Frosini, a picturesque village with cobbled streets and stone houses with lovely gardens, which consists of about 100 families. Those of you who wish to, can visit the Museum of Ali Pasha. Free leisure time. Then, we will take our way to Athens. Arrival to our hotel. Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 6 | Athens – Athens Overnight
After breakfast, we depart for a Panoramic Tour starting from the Panathenaic Stadium known as Kallimarmaro. In Antiquity was used for the celebration of Panathenea in honour of Goddess Athena. You will have free time to take photos. Boarding to the coach and departure to see the Zappeion Hall, the Greek Parliament and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, the symbolic monument in the memory of the Soldiers who died for their country. Then, drive along Panepistimiou Street, one of the most central streets of Athens, we will see the triad of neoclassical buildings: The Library, the Academy and the University. We will visit Mars Hill and the Acropolis with magnificent monuments such as the Parthenon, the Temple of Athena Nike, the Erechtheion, the Propylaea, the Ancient Agora, the theatre of Dionysus and the Odeon of Herodes Atticus (Acts 17:16-34). We will have the chance to walk around the Parthenon Monument, which was built during the 5th century BC by the architects Ictinus and Kallikrates. Then, we will have free time in the traditional area of Plaka. It is a district in the centre of Athens just beneath the Acropolis. Optional visit to the Acropolis Museum, which includes mainly findings of the archaeological site of Acropolis. The Museum started operating in 2009 and the buildings were designed by the French-Swiss Benar Tschumi. Also, we see the Beth Shalom Sephardic Synagogue and the Romaniot Synagogue just opposite. Then, we visit the Jewish Museum. Dinner at a traditional restaurant with live music. Return back to our hotel. Overnight stay.

Day 7 | Nafplion – Athens – Departure Athens Airport
After breakfast, we will depart for Peloponnese. Our first stop will be the Isthmus of Corinth. It is a narrow strip of land 6 kilometers in length joining Central Greece with Peloponnese. We will have free time to take photos. Then, we start for the capital of the prefecture Argolis, Nafplion. It is one of the most scenic cities in the country and it was the first capital of Greek state during the period 1828 – 1833. You will have free time to explore the picturesque streets of the city. Then, we will depart for Athens Airport. Return back with the best memories.
